Athlete Mental Health – October 2018
After a successful inaugural event at Chelsea FC’s home ground of Stamford Bridge in 2017 ETN once again hosted a highly successful athlete mental health conference this time at Elland Road in Leeds (home of Leeds United FC) on Thursday 18th October .
The opening address by Prof Dave Collins and Florence Lebrun of UCLAN focused on special diagnostic considerations in elite sport.
Other highlights include sessions on sports injuries and psychiatric morbidity, eating disorders in sport and bullying and child protection issues. Below are Dr Carolyn Plateau, Professor Alan Currie and Dr Emily Dudgeon who delivered the eating disorders session including a critique of RED-S criteria, the athlete’s perspective and some research insights.
The keynote session after lunch was hosted by with internationally acclaimed Professor Steve Peters interviewing Olympic champion Etienne Stott discussing how they worked together in pursuit of success at the London Olympics in 2012. Etienne is an articulate and engaging speaker and gave some remarkable insights into his London 2012 performance
